The Most Expensive House In The Most Expensive Zip Code

Another mega-expensive property has hit the market. The Wall Street Journal reports that the country's most expensive zip code in Alpine, New Jersey has a new most expensive home. In 2006, Richard J. Kurtz purchased the 60-acre Frick estate for $58 million. He turned the property into eight separate multi-acre properties including the Stone Mansion which is now listed for $68 million through Prominent Properties Sotheby's International Realty broker Dennis McCormack.

Kurtz hired architect James Paragano to build the 30,000-square-foot mansion. It is on six acres. The exterior has granite stone walls with limestone window frames and copper accents, solid mahogany doors, and a Vermont slate roof. There are a total of 12 bedrooms, seven fireplaces, a guest wing, staff quarters, a private study with 30-foot arched ceiling, grand ballroom, library, conservatory, multiple living and dining areas. Kurtz and his wife Patti worked closely with Paragano on the design and construction of the home and were responsible for selecting more than $2 million of antique chandeliers and sconces from antiquarian Cedric Dupont. Amenities include a professional basketball court, movie theater, refrigerated wine cellar, fitness center and an elevator. Outside there is a heated pool and spa, tennis courts, pergola and garage space for 11 cars. The property is set to be completed this summer. Four of the properties at the Estates at Alpine have already been purchased. One available estate encompasses the grand former home of Henry Clay Frick 2nd. The 13,000-square-foot English Style Manor was built in 1942 and has five bedrooms and six fireplaces. Its surrounding 27 acres include a carriage house, English gardens, a private pond and aviary. That home is listed at $57 million.
